Ad.4 - Stablecoin support

With custom tokens, the bridge and fee abstraction in place, stablecoins become first-class assets for payments on Nimiq. They are the centerpiece of the end-user app, because most people measure money in the currency they already use. This milestone improves usability of Stablecoins around the Nimiq Ecosystem, including easy swaps and interoperability with NIM.

First of all, congratulations on this roadmap. It took me some time to work through everything, but now I really see its potential.

Regarding stablecoins, I can imagine that in the future the world’s major currencies could become part of the Nimiq economy: USD (USDT, USDC), EUR (EURC, and possibly Qivalis), JPY (JPYC), GBP, AUD, CAD, HKD, SGD and CNY (via offshore CNH, if feasible), along with BTC.

I would also like to suggest adding gold (ie XAUT, PAXG). Gold is accepted worldwide, and the global gold market is enormous. My main point, however, is this: stablecoins are pegged to fiat currencies, which depend on central banks. This means that (hyper)inflation and devaluation, especially in extreme situations such as war, would also affect those stablecoins. Having the option to switch to gold could therefore be very valuable.

A global payment network on Nimiq, built on its principles and planned improvements, would be fantastic to see!

Thanks a lot for your suggestion @Bjorn_van_der_Schaaf . We fully agree with adding other Stablecoins from other currencies besides USD. Particularly stable Euro seems to be a good place to start. We have discussed about it and think the main technical work to enable that is allowing by the Milestone ‘Ad.1 Custom Tokens’ on Nimiq (as d. We have also discussed about tokenized gold and tokenized assets, and agree that is an interesting opportunity enabled by this feature on the Blockchain.

Maybe new milestones should be included to specify Stablecoins in other currencies (starting with Stable Euro), Tokenized Gold, etc.

I’ll include those to the list of things to improve in the final roadmap. Thanks again for your feedback and support @Bjorn_van_der_Schaaf
