An old adage goes:
“We cannot expect things to change, if we continue to do the same things”.
This is not intended to be as one of those “When this ? When that ?” posts, but rather a reflection on the communication strategy adopted in the years, both externally (the social presence), and internally within the community.
My point will be that I am not sure the former has been the weaker area so far.
Over the years the perception has been that of a certain detachment between the Team and the community in terms of communication, which goes poorly with the ideology of a supposedly community-driven project like Nimiq (where 90% of the supply is in the hands of people).
Perhaps the communications area has been undersized or neglected, in terms of the number of people and their skills.
This is very evident outside, in the social presence:
- no TikTok
- a dozen (…) of yearly videos on Youtube (and always podcasts)
- little genuine engagement on X
But the internal communication has not been any better, as I mentioned earlier.
The approach has always been like: “We’ll tell you the news as soon as we have it. Please understand there could be NDAs.”
This is basically a “press release” approach, for which people in the communication would not even be needed. Strengthening that comunication area by hiring new people/talents should be a priority.
It’s not that the community should be hyped up on nothing on a daily basis, but people reminding and sharing the vision and how it is progressing, are indeed needed.
Regarding the social presence, I would not insist with these Podcasts/X spaces, but rather producing videos more orientated toward the actual product (the technology itself), as it was in the very first years.
Bounties/contests where a prize could be awarded to users who produce such contents could be an idea. I remember this approach was tried in 2021 and a user named “Ade” won one for making a video. I don’t understand why in almost 4 years it hasn’t been tried again.
