Community Question: Could Oasis be launched in the U.S. under current regulations?

We are aware that the Nimiq community continues to view OASIS and SuperSimpleSwap as two of our most successful products, and we are proud that we were able to deliver them at the time.

However, the circumstances that made OASIS possible back in 2020/2021 have significantly changed since then. Today, the market is dominated by a wide range of well-established crypto–fiat on- and off-ramp providers, some of them being billion-dollar, VC-funded companies whose entire business operations are solely focused on the on- and off-ramp use case.

We have engaged in discussions with many of these providers in the past, but there has consistently been too little interest in decentralizing the on- and off-ramp process for their users from their sides, as these companies already earn significant revenues without taking the additional step towards user-friendliness, decentralization and security. Under these conditions, it would not be economically viable for Nimiq to compete in this space with the infrastructure and resources at our disposal.

While OASIS remains a highlight in Nimiq’s history, due to its easy usability and the community’s appreciation, the project was not only not able and but most importantly it was also not legally allowed to achieve the relevant market adoption at the time. For these reasons, Nimiq does not intend to reintroduce OASIS or SuperSimpleSwap under current market and regulatory circumstances, although this may, of course, be subject to change at some point in the future, once the industry landscape might have evolved further.
