I think Nimiq is on the right track with Mini Apps and the ambition to become the backbone for all kinds of payments. After stablecoin integration, I see two major milestones:
1. Universal Payments for Humans
Turn Nimiq Pay into a universal payment interface — with an evolution of OASIS and other interoperability infrastructure underneath.
The user should no longer need to think in terms of chains, tokens, addresses or payment rails.
Imagine simply saying:
“Send €100 to Alice.”
Alice has already defined how she wants to receive money. Nimiq Pay resolves the recipient and the appropriate payment route in the background. Whether the underlying settlement happens on Nimiq, another chain, or through a traditional payment system should become an implementation detail.
Nimiq already has several building blocks pointing in this direction: Mini Apps can run directly inside Nimiq Pay and access wallet functionality, while Nimiq transactions can carry up to 64 bytes of arbitrary data. The missing piece is a common abstraction that connects identity, payment intent, routing and settlement.
The vision is simple:
One wallet. One interface. Any payment.
2. Payments for AI Agents
The same abstraction could become even more powerful for AI agents.
An agent should not need to understand whether Alice has an IBAN, a Nimiq address, an Ethereum address or a particular stablecoin. It should simply be able to express:
“Pay this API €0.03 and verify that the payment settled.”
Nimiq could provide the underlying primitives for agents to identify a recipient, create a payment intent, execute the appropriate transaction and obtain verifiable proof of settlement.
This could enable a genuine machine economy: agents paying for APIs, data, compute and services — and agents verifying payments automatically.
So the bigger vision is not simply a better crypto wallet.
Nimiq Pay could become a universal payment interface for humans and machines, with Nimiq providing the verifiable settlement layer underneath.
Humans say: “Send €100 to Alice.”
Agents say: “Pay this service €0.03.”
The complexity of the underlying payment system disappears. The payment just happens — and its settlement can be verified.
Why Nimiq?
Nimiq’s browser-first approach fits this vision particularly well. If payments, wallets and Mini Apps can live natively in the web environment, payment infrastructure becomes accessible not only to users, but also directly to web applications and, ultimately, AI agents.
Instead of building another isolated financial ecosystem, Nimiq could become a native payment layer of the open internet — accessible wherever the web is.
