Nimiq Space funding proposal

1. Project Description

Clearly explain your project:

What is it? (e.g. website, app, marketing initiative, tool, event, etc.)
Nimiq Space is a browser native social-first multiplayer experience. It offers various social features & in-game activities to earn rewards in NIM, which converts new users into active NIM holders.

What problem does it solve or what opportunity does it address?
Nimiq Space acts as an onboarding infrastructure layer for the Nimiq ecosystem.

User onboarding remains one of the biggest barriers to cryptocurrency adoption, this includes the Nimiq ecosystem.

It is difficult, mostly because creating a wallet is emotionless and lacks stickiness to keep users around.

Optimally we want to guide users to:

  1. Create their first wallet.
  2. Experience receiving their first NIM.
  3. Experience making their first transaction.
  4. Logging into an account using a Nimiq wallet.
  5. Become familiar with Identicons and the Nimiq brand.

Why Nimiq.Space is unique for this.

  • Browser Native (zero install)
  • Social first (not solo)
  • Wallet interaction is embedded in the gameplay.
  • Always-online public world
  • Open source project.

Who is it for?

  • New users who are unfamiliar with cryptocurrencies.
  • Existing Nimiq holders who seek social interaction.
  • Ecosystem developers seeking visibility for their projects.

Because it’s browser first with mobile support it allows for instant participation across desktop & mobile devices.

Word of mouth will be the strongest factor here, as the game is social by nature - the person sharing with a friend can jump into the game, interact & play together - acting as a guide into for the new user into the Nimiq ecosystem.

2. Project goal

Describe the expected impact on the Nimiq ecosystem:

Does it drive adoption, awareness, or engagement?
Nimiq Space is designed to simultaneously drive adoption, awareness and engagement.

Nimiq Space addresses the problems in 1 by gating access to the game by a “Sign in with Nimiq” button.

Thanks to good design on Team Nimiqs behalf, for users that don’t have an account - they automatically go through the create wallet process, for existing users they might experience signing a message for the first time.

Having a browser first experience which is accessible without app download via desktop + mobile is a unique opportunity to capture attention from the large smartphone market.

Having mini-games* in Nimiq Space is a way to reward users for playing. As of this proposal, there are two ways to earn NIM.

  1. The Maze - a short maze puzzle where multiple users can complete to find the exit first. The winner receives a payment in NIM for completing the maze first.
    1. The Maze starts after 15 seconds
    2. The Maze last for 1 minute
    3. The Maze has a cooldown of 15 seconds
    4. Winners of the maze receive 1 NIM.
    5. If the maze is being ran 24/7 the maximum output of NIM per day would be 960 NIM or 29760 NIM per month.
  2. Mining Blocks - there is a gold block room that allows users to mine* and earn NIM.
    1. These blocks as of this proposal dispense between 0.02 and 0.50 NIM per block.
    2. There are 10 valid blocks that can be mined
    3. Blocks can be mined again after 60-90 seconds
    4. If the blocks were being mined 24/7, reset every 60 seconds and always output 0.50 NIM. The maximum output would be 7200 NIM per day or 223200 NIM per month.
Mini-games intentionally create repeated wallet interactions, which helps to reinforce familiarity with transactions and rewards.

KPIs:
While as far as I’m aware, it’s not possible to know who has created a new account via Sign-In with Nimiq project impact will be evaluated using the following KPIs:
- Daily active users
- Percentage of returning users & session duration
- Transactions generated via gameplay rewards
- Ecosystem links clicked from in-game promotional material.

Does it introduce new use cases or improve existing ones?
Nothing is necessarily new, rewards from playing Nimiq games has been around for a long time - NIMtris, Nimiq Sunset Cyberspace, Nimiq2048.
Nimiq Space expands these use cases by introducing a persistent social multiplayer environment.

How does it benefit the community?
It creates new social spaces, for users to connect and hang out - at the moment, the main social spaces are Telegram/Discord and to an extent X. However at times it doesn’t feel like a great way to foster a close community.

Multiplayer matters as onboarding works best socially, users will naturally trust friends over watching how-to tutorials & genuine shared experiences increases should help with retention.

Because this is a Nimiq Space it makes sense to use the space to promote other projects in the Nimiq Ecosystem, whether it is in-game billboards linking to legitimate ecosystem projects or staking pools. It makes it easy to guide users to other use-cases.

Integrating this project into a 24/7 always on live-stream would be another avenue for new users to discover the project, it would be trivial to have a VPS following users in public rooms - while they are earning $NIM in-game or running through mini-games. By extension of having other ecosystem projects promoted in game - they would also receive visibility.

3. Budget request

Provide a transparent breakdown:

Total amount requested
950$ USD per month.

Detailed allocation of funds (development, marketing, operations, etc.)

  • Cursor Pro+ ($60/mo) 3x usage
    or
  • Cursor Ultra ($200/mo) 20x usage.
  • $200USD per month in NIM for the user incentive pool.
  • Backend Hosting ($24 per month)
  • Continuous Development & Maintenance ($500 USD per month).

Justification for expenses
Nimiq Space wouldn’t exist today without AI. An extended Cursor Subscription would ensure development can continue actively without waiting for usage limit resets.

The backend server is currently hosted on a $5 Linode VPS.
The frontend single page application is hosted for free in Vercel.

The request for $24USD is for scalable hosting to support user growth.

Additional funding in NIM is to cover expansion into additional mini-game offering.

Developer expenses would also used to fund additional resources for the projects, graphics, sound or any other unexpected expenses, maintenance and provide capacity for quick iteration.
The requested funding represents ongoing operational support - rather than a one-time/milestone unlocked funding, which reflects the nature of a live service platform.

4. Timeline

Outline your project schedule:

Estimated start and completion dates
The project has already begun. https://nimiq.space.

Milestones focused for this quarter are outlined in the section below, though as Nimiq Space is an ongoing live service - milestones will be reviewed regularly to determine what is most suitable for integration to the platform.

As this proposal is requesting a per month stipend to fund development costs, it’s up to the funding board to regularly review and adjust/pull funding if there no longer appears to be value to the ecosystem.

The game is open source GitHub - Harlski/nspace: Repository for Nimiq Space · GitHub - so anyone is welcome to contribute to this project.

The project prioritizes rapid iteration and experimentation, leveraging modern AI development workflows. As the platform matures, refactoring and optimization will be introduced alongside growing adoption.

Key phases or milestones (if applicable)
- Service Status pages (Configure telemetry to visualize service up-time)
- Administrative performance dashboard to drilldown on actual server performance.
- Public Single Page Applications that interface with backend stats, for highscores/payout auditability.
- Introduction of a mature DevOps process & depending on external developer involvement
- a creation of a private test.nimiq.space for testing/dev purposes.

5. Terms of completion

Define how the project’s completion will be evaluated:

What deliverables will be provided?
Deliverables will be provided via pushes to public GitHub repository (https://github.com/harlski/space)

Funding success can be evaluated based on the following:
- Platform Uptime
- Active User Interactions
- Onboarding activities
- Ecosystem integrations
- Ongoing development commits

How will you demonstrate that the project is finished? (e.g. live product, report, metrics, etc.)
In the foreseeable future, this project will like stay in an alpha state 1+ year - I don’t have any near expectations for a final product, but that won’t distract from continued feature updates and project improvements.

6. Milestones

If applicable, you must break your project into milestones:

Each milestone should include deliverables, timelines, and associated budget
Milestone 1 - Platform Stability.
- Telemetry dashboards
- Uptime monitoring
- Performance analytics
Milestone 2 - Transparency & Trust
- Public stats dashboard
- Payout auditability
Milestone 3 - DevOps pipeline
- Test/Developer environment

This helps track progress and simplifies phased funding analysis that will be asked

Please refer again to the Nimiq Community Council Legal & Ethical Guideline Framework about this matter.

7. Compliance with the Legal and Ethical Guideline Framework

Your application must comply with the Nimiq Community Council Legal & Ethical Guideline Framework .

Please read carefully paragraphs 6 and 11 for mandatory infos that must be added to your proposal.

Please read carefully paragraphs 3, 4, 7 and 8 for all rules your proposal and project must respect.

We don’t handle user funds, we are a non-custodial platform and as of this proposal we only send funds to a user - we are not collecting or requesting user to transact to us in NIM. Though as the platform evolves and matures, in-game payments may be possible to provide additional in-game experiences/services.

Rewards are distributed transparently and we comply with the councils ethical framework.

Ultimately the longterm vision of Nimiq Space is to evolve into a persistent social hub for the Nimiq ecosystem, which serves as:

  • A discovery space for ecosystem projects
  • A social onboarding environment
  • A live demonstration of Nimiq’s usability
  • an experimentation platform for future community integrations.
