Nimiq uses zero-knowledge proofs: compact mathematical proofs that let a light wallet confirm the blockchain state retrieved by the wallet is genuine without downloading its entire history. The proof system was retired to reduce risk, and its successor will be chosen deliberately as part of the quantum research.
