Nimiq App Roadmap

Bg - The Big Bang Aiming for one launch moment rather than a drip of releases, the milestones in this category bring together the full redesign, the new brand of the app and a name. In crypto’s short attention economy, one big launch of something “new” reaches far more people than a stream of announcements about an app nobody has heard of. The app may eventually carry its own brand, so that it can reach people who would never click on something named after a blockchain, and then, because the experience is better, turn them into users of the Nimiq protocol organically. Bb - The Mini-App platform Aiming to build the part of the app that makes it different, the milestones in this category focus on a completely thought-through Mini-App ecosystem, where Mini-Apps work well with the native app and with each other. We want Apple-like, intuitive UX for crypto dApps, circling back to Nimiq’s ease-of-use DNA. The protocol-side enablers (QR codes, push notifications, payment requests, inter-Mini-App interaction, malicious-Mini-App warnings) live in Ah.5 of the Protocol Roadmap. Bd - Save & Earn New product focus, in addition to Pay Be - Pay Section Aiming to keep improving what Nimiq Pay already does best, the milestones in this category continue the work on the Pay section, focusing on decentralized payment rails. This is the app side of the commitment not to build Nimiq’s future around permission from banks. Card payments are explicitly not a focus now; a card is unlocked later, once usage and users grow. Bf - Ledger support Aiming to make sure nobody is left behind, this category gives users of the App to Ledger (Bc.7). People keep NIM on a Ledger usually because they hold a lot of it, and they must keep access, including staking. Pay flows will not initially target Ledger (nobody plugs a Ledger into their phone at the supermarket); Ledger matters for Save, Earn and Mini-Apps, possibly through a special web-only build (Ba.4). The path has to be decided during the parity work, so that it lands before anything is switched off. Bc - Feature parity with Wallet/CPL Aiming to get to “The One App” (working title), the milestones in this category port every Wallet and CPL feature into The One App, each as a Mini-App rather than natively. Mini-Apps are a good alternative for three reasons: the maintenance burden is lower (independent codebases that don’t need core-level complexity), each feature can be open-sourced individually, and every port stress-tests and extends the framework (Bb.1). Whether any of them should become native is re-evaluated at the redesign (Bg.5). Parity also means the same level of security users rely on today. Doing this work alongside Theme Bb forces the framework to mature by using it ourselves, and it is the app-side counterpart of the Protocol Roadmap’s bridge (Ad.2), the app’s asset on-ramp. Ba - Core app readiness Aiming to make Nimiq Pay a foundation people can trust/build on, the milestones in this category focus on the structure, the openness, the legal hygiene and the reach of the app that everything else will be built on. Before new sections and Mini-Apps pile up, the app needs a clear shell, a fully open codebase, a smaller legal surface and a presence beyond mobile phones.
